« How to use the IntroTrax and JamTraxs »

You received two sets of downloads with Master The Modes:

  • IntroTrax: These seven tracks are slower and simpler than the JamTraxs. They are ideal for familiarizing yourself with the modes and for getting comfortable with improvising. Use them to get comfortable with the concepts taught.

You should also listen to the other seven IntroTraxs by Rob, our Modes Master, to hear and learn basic concepts. Once you’re comfortable with what is being demonstrated, you’ll be ready to move on to the JamTraxs.

  • JamTraxs: These are jams for each mode that feature more complicated chords and faster grooves. You can hear how each mode works in a real musical situation. The styles are varied—rock, reggae, funk, jazz fusion—showing that the modes can add spice to any type of music you play.

Check out Rob’s versions to see what he does with the modes. When you’re listening to them, remember this: he played each solo live (no editing) and in one take. So you’ll be hearing real improvisation at a very high level.

The following presentation of the modes is not in the traditional sequence. This is intentional and for learning purposes.
